The "Writer's" Road Isn't Always Paved In Gold.

So... You wake up one day and it hits you....

You can't get the voices out of your head....

It seems like every moment of every day there is someone in the back of your mind that's speaking to you--calling you. Your characters are trying to tell you something. They are telling you that they need to be written--that "you" as the writer need to breathe life into them.. And that's where your journey down literary avenue begins.

I don't think anyone ever fully prepares themself for the hardwork that comes with writing a novel. Yes, you know that you love to write...It's your passion...your joi de vivre. But have you prepared yourself for the long and winding road ahead?

It doesn't just take getting the story all written down. It takes hours of perfecting and months of revisions. I have even heard of some writers who have worked on their piece for years before finally finishing it.

Then... You've finally perfected your piece and submitted it your agent/editor and the waiting begins... Or you start your querying process...

Not everyone's novel is going to sell the first time around either... You may have to write two or three more before you finally get the call..."We have an offer."

What's important is that you keep writing. My mother always says Laur, hard work pays off and that couldn't be anymore true.

Cheers!

Mom's have the best advice! Hard work will pay off in the end. Sometimes it just takes longer than we'd like.

I think many writers start off not knowing how difficult writing is. People see the finished product, after it's been edited and polished, and they don't see how much goes into it. And many are astonished that the first draft they quickly pound out isn't snapped up by the first editor or agent who sees it. :)

But a real writer will go through all of this, learn from it, and keep writing.

With a lot of things, I think if we knew how hard it was going to be at the beginning, we probably wouldn't even start. Better to just jump in without a clue and learn these things along the way. At least, for me. Because the work is worth it.
