Don't Be A One Book Wonder...

Tuesday, April 12, 2011
Hello, readers! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Today's post is going to be about one book wonders. They are a lot like one hit wonders in the music industry but
in a literary way.

Sometimes you hear about it, the dreaded one book wonder. The author puts out a fantastic novel, then that's the only book they ever come out with. In my opinion, that's a big no-no.

When I take on writer's, I be sure to look for someone who is a versatile writer--a writer who is capable of writing several different books--preferably in several different genres.

Why?

If you want to have a long, lucrative writing career it's must. When your first novel is put out, yes, you'll gain a following and it's important that you keep that following. If they love the first book you write, they are going to want to read more of your writing.

I feel, that's it's important to stay connected to your readers. And if you put out one book and one book only, I feel like eventually you'll lose them.

Personally, I have written at least nine novels. Four that are completed and the rest that I'm working on.

Why?

Because I get a zillion ideas every day. And I think it's important to harness those ideas. Hey, you never know who might be reading them in the future.

Keep writing! I know most of you have tons of ideas for great books in your brains!

Cheers!

  1. I have lots of ideas, I just hope they're all good! At this point I'd settle for one book over the zero I currently have published, though :)

  1. A question for you. If you begin say, writing a romcom, won't your readers always expect your following books to be in that genre? Can you go from a romcom to a thriller? Or would you lose the following you had because you had initially appealed to readers that love a romance story. I guess what I'm trying to say is, is it possible to write books in different genres and keep your readership?

Patti~ Of course it is! Readers follow you because they like your style of writing. I don't think it necessarily has to with the genre.

  1. Thank you, Lola. I never thought about people liking you because of your style of writing. That really helps - cheers.
