A Royal Occasion Indeed...

Friday, April 29, 2011

I'm sure all of you know that today was the highly anticipated day of the Royal Wedding.

This morning, Yes, I was one of the people who got up at 4:00am and went to a Royal Wedding Party.

A Royal Wedding Party... I'm completely serious. And my local news crew even came to cover it.

(Check out my sister looking snazzy for the Royal Wedding Party)

And I have to say, even though I'm exhausted, I am extremely happy that I woke up to watch the wedding take place. For me, it was truly a once in a lifetime kind of feeling.

So... as we go into the weekend, I thought I'd post something fun.

What's your noble British name?

In the comment section... Lady goes in front of your name if your a woman and Lord if your a man. Then, the name of your favorite grandmother (or grandfather if you're a guy) and the name of your favorite pet... Then the street you grew up on.

EX(this is mine)- Lady Beatrice Koko of Karen Oval.

So let's hear yours!

Cheers!

Bringing On The Heartache....

Happy Monday, readers! I hope every one is well rested, ready to begin their week and had a very happy holiday! I know I did.

Today's post is going to be about books that tug at the heartstrings.

Personally, I love so many different kinds of books. It doesn't matter if they are memoirs, or science fiction. I'll read anything.

EXCEPT.....

Now I know most of you love a good tearjerker, who doesnt, right? But there are some books where I know I can't read them before I've even bought them. The heartwrenching ones. The books that will make me depressed for at least a day after reading them.

I read the synopsis for a novel the other day and just after reading the synopsis, I said NO I will not read this. I couldn't even get through the synopsis without tearing up.

I think it's different when you read a novel where you know the situation is fictional. And if at the end something good happens. But nonetheless, I cannot read novels that are severely depressing..

What are your thoughts? Opinions?

Cheers!

Hello Everyone! I know it's been a while since I've written a post.. And I can honestly thank mother nature for that. Apparently she's been busy wreaking havoc in my neck of the woods. In result, I was without internet for the last two days.

Any who, I'm going to make this post short and sweet. For those of you that celebrate Easter, I hope that you have a very happy one.

Personally, I love the holidays. It's a time where I spend some much needed time with family and just kick back and relax.

So here's a little quote to see you into the weekend! Happy Easter!

Fangtabulous Friday!

For those of you that have read, Love Sucks, you very well know that there is going to be a sequel. Today, I'm going to post a little snippet from A Sucker For Love, the sequel to Love Sucks! Enjoy and have an awesome weekend! ENGLAND 1722 Jean Pierre gazed out into the vast, surroundings of the English countryside. He turned his attention toward the small farmhouse that rested on the outskirts of the acreage of property. Blood curdling screams ricocheted off the walls as his minions ransacked the house. This family would satisfy their blood lust, for now. It had only been a day since he had left France, yet his accent had already faded. That was what it was like being a vampire in the eighteenth century. You have to blend in with the company you are surrounded with. You have to adapt, making yourself one of their own. There is no in between. It’s either adapt, and create this new version of yourself, or die. Over the centuries, he had become a great many people. A Viking Warrior, a Greek fisherman, a noble Irish man. Every time he took on a new persona, he found that he perfected the façade he was putting up. So far, that façade had kept him alive for two hundred years. The three men he had turned when he arrived, staggered out of the house, carrying the flailing bodies of it’s inhabitants. A women, in her mid-thirties who Jean Pierre assumed was the mother, reached up, digging her nails into Henry’s wrist. Although Henry felt nothing, and the fingernails snapped on contact with the skin. It enraged him, and he turned toward Jean Pierre for approval, an evil glint in his brown eyes.

What's Your Favorite Fairytale?

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Azalea is trapped. Just when she should feel that everything is before her . . . beautiful gowns, dashing suitors, balls filled with dancing . . . it's taken away. All of it.

The Keeper understands. He's trapped, too, held for centuries within the walls of the palace. And so he extends an invitation.

Every night, Azalea and her eleven sisters may step through the enchanted passage in their room to dance in his silver forest.

But there is a cost.

The Keeper likes to keep things.

Azalea may not realize how tangled she is in his web until it is too late. (summary from goodreads)

Does anyone remember the fairytale, The Twelve Dancing Princesses? Growing up, it was one of my favorites.

I can remember when Nickolodeon would have a cartoon fairytale show on everyday at 12:00 when I was a kid and I would stop whatever I was doing to watch it. The Twelve Dancing Princesses was one of the fairytales on that show.

So I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was when I found out about Entwined by: Heather Dixon which is a re-imagining of that fairytale.

I'll DEFINITELY be buying this book! You guys should check it out!

Cheers!

Don't Be A One Book Wonder...

Tuesday, April 12, 2011
Hello, readers! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Today's post is going to be about one book wonders. They are a lot like one hit wonders in the music industry but
in a literary way.

Sometimes you hear about it, the dreaded one book wonder. The author puts out a fantastic novel, then that's the only book they ever come out with. In my opinion, that's a big no-no.

When I take on writer's, I be sure to look for someone who is a versatile writer--a writer who is capable of writing several different books--preferably in several different genres.

Why?

If you want to have a long, lucrative writing career it's must. When your first novel is put out, yes, you'll gain a following and it's important that you keep that following. If they love the first book you write, they are going to want to read more of your writing.

I feel, that's it's important to stay connected to your readers. And if you put out one book and one book only, I feel like eventually you'll lose them.

Personally, I have written at least nine novels. Four that are completed and the rest that I'm working on.

Why?

Because I get a zillion ideas every day. And I think it's important to harness those ideas. Hey, you never know who might be reading them in the future.

Keep writing! I know most of you have tons of ideas for great books in your brains!

Cheers!

A Little Inspiration Goes A Long Way...

Friday, April 8, 2011
Hello Friday!!! Sometimes it feels like you're never going to get here!

As we go into the weekend, let's think about what inspires us... I get inspired by all sorts of things. Rain. Music. People. So what I really want to know, is what you, the readers, get inspired by?

Here's a little inspirational quote to take you into the weekend...

Life has no smooth road for any of us; and in the bracing atmosphere of a high aim the very roughness stimulates the climber to steadier steps, till the legend, over steep ways to the stars, fulfills itself ~ W. C. Doane

Cheers! Have a good weekend!

Is this the years for Greek Myth re-tellings or what?

I have to say, that in the beginning, I was a little upset to hear about Meg Cabot's dark Hades and Persephone re-telling mainly because I also wrote a Hades and Persephone re-telling titled Asphodel.

But... I mean, come on, It's Meg Cabot, you know the book is going to be good. So naturally, I swallowed my disappointment and will probably be one of the first people in line at the store to buy this book...

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.(summary from goodreads)

I'm excited to read this! I sure as hell hope that it doesn't disappointment...I've spent years studying the Hades and Persephone myth. So it's always cool to see how it's made into a modern story. And it's also cool to see the way other's take it.

This story is told a few different ways so I'm anxious to see Cabot's take on it!

Cheers!

The "Writer's" Road Isn't Always Paved In Gold.

So... You wake up one day and it hits you....

You can't get the voices out of your head....

It seems like every moment of every day there is someone in the back of your mind that's speaking to you--calling you. Your characters are trying to tell you something. They are telling you that they need to be written--that "you" as the writer need to breathe life into them.. And that's where your journey down literary avenue begins.

I don't think anyone ever fully prepares themself for the hardwork that comes with writing a novel. Yes, you know that you love to write...It's your passion...your joi de vivre. But have you prepared yourself for the long and winding road ahead?

It doesn't just take getting the story all written down. It takes hours of perfecting and months of revisions. I have even heard of some writers who have worked on their piece for years before finally finishing it.

Then... You've finally perfected your piece and submitted it your agent/editor and the waiting begins... Or you start your querying process...

Not everyone's novel is going to sell the first time around either... You may have to write two or three more before you finally get the call..."We have an offer."

What's important is that you keep writing. My mother always says Laur, hard work pays off and that couldn't be anymore true.

Cheers!
