Creative Writing Goals... What are some of yours?

Friday, November 18, 2011
Hello.... Literary Land!

With Turkey Day quickly approaching... (and let's face it, I'm sure we could all use a few days to relax, have some turkey, and spend time with family) that will also give us some down time. So what do you plan to do with it?

Today's post is about Creative Writing Goals. I know everyone has them. But what exactly are they and what do they mean to each person? Take mine for example, I like to write off the wall books... and I'm always striving to write something different. Books that really have something to say.

Among my slew of idea's I'm determined to write a zombie romance without dialogue. Challenging, huh? What's a book without dialogue? How can it be pulled off? I think as writers we always try to challenge ourselves with every book we write. And Imo, a challenge is a good thing.

So what are some of the challenges in writing you'd like to cross? What are some of your goals for 2012?

Have a good Friday, everyone!

Cheers!

  1. A zombie romance without dialogue? Only you could pull that off, Lauren. :) I love to write outside my comfort zone. It's the only way to find out what you are capable off. It's how I got into writing horror, too.

Your idea reminds me a little bit of Wall-e (and how much the filmmakers were able to achieve without dialogue). Sounds intriguing!

I have a rough idea of the book I'll be writing in 2012, but my goals are more generic. Stuff like increasing the immediacy of my writing, cleaning up my prose, developing voice, etc.

    Happy Turkey Day!

My writing goals for 2012 is to complete the two books I've started and possibly a third (second in a series). It's a big goal, but I'm hoping for 2012 to be a big year.

I agree this reminds me of Wall-E - a genius movie IMO. Good luck!

  1. Oh, I like your idea! I always challenge myself to take a dialog paragraph and write it without. (And vise versa)

My goal is to write a novel in the POV of an animal or object, instead of a person. I'm excited to explore all the possibilities there :)
