Pittacus Lore Walks Among Us

Okay. I'm gonna be brutally honest here and tell you that I bought this book for two reasons.

1. The guy on the cover is hot.

2. One of the co-authors is from my home state.(gotta support my fellow Ohioians)

In the beginning they were a group of nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorian. Nine aliens who scattered on Earth. Nine aliens who look like ordinary teenagers living ordinary lives, but who have extraordinary, paranormal skills. Nine aliens who might be sitting next to you now.

The Nine had to separate and go into hiding. The Mogadorian caught Number One in Malaysia, Number Two in England, and Number Three in Kenya. All of them were killed. John Smith, of Paradise, Ohio, is Number Four. He knows that he is next.

I AM NUMBER FOUR is the thrilling launch of a series about an exceptional group of teens as they struggle to outrun their past, discover their future—and live a normal life on Earth.

I AM NUMBER FOUR.
I AM NEXT

Truthfully, I didn't think I was going to like this book.I bought it and thought hey, what the hell, I'll give it a try.

But..... I was totally wrong.

Half-way into, I found myself flipping over page after page, dying to get to the next part.

I got completely sucked into John's world. And I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that Paradise, Ohio reminds me of the small town in Ohio I grew up in.

And also because it was action packed. Between John being on the run, developing his legacies(special powers), and trying to deal with normal teenage things (even though he is not normal) like your first love as a teen, this book provides all of that and more.

I'd recommend I Am Number Four to anyone. And if you're like me and think you might not like it, you could be wrong... Because I ended up loving it!

Now... I can't wait to see the movie... Let's hope that doesn't disappoint.

Cheers!

  1. We liked the movie and that includes my nine year old son. I hate that people are attacking this movie just because Frey is behind it. I admit I almost didn't go because of that but husband wanted to see it. So we went. I thought the movie had great action and chemistry. I did read the first chapter and was hooked. Plan to read more.

    Why don't they like Frey?

  1. A few years ago James Frey wrote what he said was a memoir, but he greatly exaggerated parts of it, and actually made up scenes. That's number one. Now, he has set up what he terms "The Fiction Factory" where he hires people to flesh out hisi story synopses a la Mark Kostabi or Andy Warhol's Art Factory. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with writing for hire, but this seems to be more of a stretch. I think the real writer's name should be on the cover, or at least on the inside page. Why not give credit where credit is due?

  1. I guess I feel the way Catherine says. While there's nothing wrong with contracting out work, but it just doesn't seem right to pass it off as yours alone.

Guess you can't argue with success, however. Maybe I should find out who actually write for Frey and hire them myself. Nawt!!!

    Thanks, Lauren.

I haven't heard good things about the movie, so I'm guessing this is a classic case of the movie not living up to the book.
